I'm more than resistant to corporatist notions of "branding" in any context or configuration, and I think that it's a pretty insidious concept overall (I've sat in on enough meetings sorting out the notion of "brand"...)

But moreover, small press interest is definitely generated a great deal through word of mouth. I think that hinges in part on writers respecting the opinions of other writers, ie credibility.

And you gots lit cred!j-lovehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15332251772933635958noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13774780.post-1150912285407375492006-06-21T13:51:00.000-04:002006-06-21T13:51:00.000-04:00What a fantastic idea! (Saying that I do love Serpents Tail and also the UK based Persephone who re-publish "forgotten fiction" from the early 20th century, especially women writers.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13774780.post-1150820347046314472006-06-20T12:19:00.000-04:002006-06-20T12:19:00.000-04:00what a great idea! I'm in complete agreement with ...what a great idea! I'm in complete agreement with your thoughts on the 'brandin' issue and the indie press. In an increasingly commercial bookworld, the indie presses are often our only hope. I look forward to reading your profiles and comments.

Some favorite indies here in the U.S.:

Four Walls Eight Windows
Dalkey Archive Press
Akashic Books
Serpent's Tail
RE: SearchRicky Lee Grovehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03588565441793716202noreply@blogger.com
